Animal grief is real and something I have not only experienced myself but have also discussed with our clients at Eden Memorial Pet Care Inc.  We have all experienced the heart wrenching emotion with either a friend or loved one and/or a pet.  Just as you have dealt with grief, so do animals.  From elephants in the wild to our domesticated fur babies, grief can be debilitating.  So how can we help our animal companions through this experience?  What are the signs to look for?  How do we know if they are suffering?

A little over a year ago, I experienced first hand how horses in the barn I attend weekly reacted when the “matriarch” of the barn passed away suddenly.  It shook me to the core and reminded me how important it is to recognize the signs and help our animal companions through the process of grief.  A beautiful thing can happen…as you are working through your own grief and helping your fellow companions it can help in the process of healing.  Below is a link to the article that was posted by SLO Horse News this past summer.  I hope the article can help you or someone you know who might be experiencing a similar situation.
